2009年的阿富汗總統(tǒng)選舉具有以下特征:缺乏安全保障,低投票率,投票點稀少,恐嚇威脅猖狂和其他選舉欺詐等。兩個月后,在美國和其盟國的沉重壓力下,第二輪決勝選舉投票在現(xiàn)任總統(tǒng)卡爾扎伊和其主要競爭對手阿卜杜拉博士之間舉行。但是就在決勝選舉前的一周阿卜杜拉博士宣布他將不再參與競選,因為他所提出的改革選舉委員會的要求尚未滿足,因此透明選舉是不可能的。2009年11月2日,選舉委員會官員宣布取消決勝選舉,哈米德·卡爾扎伊當(dāng)選隨后5年任期的阿富汗總統(tǒng)。 The 2009 presidential election in Afghanistan was characterized by lack of security, widespread ballot stuffing, low voter turnout, intimidation, and other electoral fraud. Two months later, under heavy U.S. and ally pressure, a second round run-off vote between incumbent President Hamid Karzai and his main rival Dr Abdullah, however a week before the run off Dr Abdullah announced that he would no longer be participating in the run-off because his demands for changes in the electoral commission had not been met, and that transparent election is not possible.
