We see them wave their arms about and shake their heads, but few spectators know how hard an orchestra conduc

tor has to work during concerts. He is responsible for bringing the composer’s ideas home to us. He is a medium who takes the piece of music into his heart and soul, and then conveys his impressions to the orchestra, which is able to respond to the slightest nuance of his mood. Without emotion it is impossible to inspire musicians to give a really honest performance. A conductor is similar to a theatre actor and even to a toreador but instead of a red cape he has his conductor’s baton. It is enough for him to raise it and the musicians become an integral whole.The following photo series "Masters of music (piano to forte moods)" shows such world figures as Valery Gergiyev, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Vladimir Ashkenazi and is designed to show conductors from an unusual angle, to depict their emotions and the enormous strain they are under in order to unveil the magic of music’s birth.
